Travel By Car
Pretty much all the Motorways in France are privately owned and therefore will charge you a toll, a rough rule of thumb is that you will pay about 10 Euros to travel 100 Km. It is not an exact science but it may help when working out how much it will cost to travel from one side of France to the other.
If however you want to take a little more time the road network is excellent and a well planned route will take you through some breathtaking countryside.
The roads are also very well signposted and easy to navigate, be aware of speed cameras but unlike the UK they are well signposted in advance to you should not pick up any unnecessary fines.
Mostly driving through France is a bit like driving in the UK 30 years ago, the only exception is of course Paris which is typical of any major city around the world.
