It's quite important to realise that French healthcare is not free, so you will need to take out travel insurance. DO NOT travel to France without it. EU nationals are able to benefit from a subsidised service (NOT FREE) to qualify for this you need to contact the department of health and ask for a Form E111. Once you have both of the above you will find the French health service excellent. Also every town has a local Pharmacy and the staff there are fully trained and will help you with minor ailments. Details on local Doctors can be found at the local tourist offices, again pretty much every French town has a tourist office.
